Differentiable Stripe Patterns for Inverse Design of Structured Surfaces

چکیده

Stripe patterns are ubiquitous in nature and everyday life. While the synthesis of these has been thoroughly studied literature, their potential to control mechanics structured materials remains largely unexplored. In this work, we introduce Differentiable Patterns---a computational approach for automated design physical surfaces with stripe-shaped bi-material distributions. Our method builds on work by Knöppel colleagues [2015] generating globally-continuous equally-spaced stripe patterns. investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

SparseMAP: Differentiable Sparse Structured Inference

Structured prediction requires searching over a combinatorial number of structures. To tackle it, we introduce SPARSEMAP, a new method for sparse structured inference, together with corresponding loss functions. SPARSEMAP inference is able to automatically select only a few global structures: it is situated between MAP inference, which picks a single structure, and marginal inference, which ass...

Stripe Parameterization of Tubular Surfaces

We present a novel algorithm for automatic parameterization of tubelike surfaces of arbitrary genus, such as the surfaces of knots, trees, blood vessels, neurons, or any tubular graph with a globally consistent stripe texture. Mathematically, these surfaces can be described as thickened graphs, and the calculated parameterization stripe will follow either around the tube, along the underlying g...

Homoclinic Stripe Patterns

In this paper, we study homoclinic stripe patterns in the two-dimensional generalized Gierer– Meinhardt equation, where we interpret this equation as a prototypical representative of a class of singularly perturbed monostable reaction-diffusion equations. The structure of a stripe pattern is essentially one-dimensional; therefore, we can use results from the literature to establish the existenc...

Piecewise Differentiable Minimization for Ill-posed Inverse Problems

Based on minimizing a piecewise differentiable lp function subject to a single inequality constraint, this paper discusses algorithms for a discretized regularization problem for ill-posed inverse problems. We examine computational challenges of solving this regularization problem. Possible minimization algorithms such as the steepest descent method, iteratively weighted least squares (IRLS) me...
